An ester combining cis-3-hexenol with lactic acid, providing a mild fruity-green note with a slightly creamy character. The lactate moiety may offer mild humectant properties in addition to its fragrance function.
Cis-3-hexenyl lactate is formed by esterification of leaf alcohol (cis-3-hexen-1-ol) with lactic acid. Lactic acid is a well-known skin-identical humectant and exfoliant; the esterification moderates its acidity while retaining some of lactic acid's skin-conditioning character. The compound is used both as a fragrance ingredient and for its mild skin-conditioning properties. No EU cosmetic restrictions apply; IFRA standards are compliant at normal fragrance use levels.
