C7-8 Isoparaffin is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
The C7-8 range represents the lightest isoparaffinic fraction in this ingredient batch, with a significant vapor pressure at room temperature. These very short-chain branched alkanes evaporate within seconds of skin application, leaving behind only the non-volatile components of a formulation. This makes C7-8 isoparaffin particularly useful in hair-spray solvents, dry-touch products, and as a propellant in aerosol cosmetics. EU SCCS assessment under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 confirms that fully hydrotreated, aromatic-free aliphatic hydrocarbons in this range are safe for cosmetic use, including aerosolized applications, provided inhalation exposure is controlled.
Skin benefits
- Leaves zero residue due to rapid evaporation
- Provides a cool, refreshing sensory effect during application
Known concerns
- High volatility means significant inhalation exposure in spray products — requires careful aerosol engineering
- Flammability considerations in manufacturing and consumer use
