Isosteareth-3 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Isosteareth-3 is a non-ionic surfactant produced by ethoxylating isostearyl alcohol with approximately 3 moles of ethylene oxide. The branched isostearyl moiety provides improved skin feel and reduced greasiness relative to linear fatty alcohol ethoxylates. Under EU cosmetic law, Isosteareth-3 is not subject to specific restrictions in Regulation (EC) 1223/2009; it is, however, subject to standard CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient Review) assessment and is considered safe for cosmetic use when formulated to avoid irritation.
Skin benefits
- Provides smooth, non-greasy skin feel
- Effective solubilizer for hydrophobic ingredients
Known concerns
- May contain traces of unreacted isostearyl alcohol
- Potential for mild sensitization at high concentrations
