Also known as cis-3-hexenyl caproate, this ester delivers a sweet, fruity-green character reminiscent of tropical fruits. It is one of the most extensively used cis-3-hexenyl esters in fine fragrance and personal care products.
Cis-3-hexenyl hexanoate is the ester of leaf alcohol (cis-3-hexen-1-ol) with hexanoic (caproic) acid, a medium-chain fatty acid. The combination yields a sweet, fruity-green odor profile used widely in tropical and floral fragrance compositions. Hexanoic acid and its esters have a long history of safe use in food and cosmetics. The compound is not listed in EU Annex II or III of Regulation 1223/2009, and IFRA standards are permissive for this material at normal use levels in cosmetic products.
