A fruity-green ester of cis-3-hexenol and butyric acid with a sweet, tropical-fruit character reminiscent of pineapple and banana. One of the most widely used green-note esters in perfumery.
Cis-3-hexenyl butyrate is the ester of cis-3-hexen-1-ol (leaf alcohol) with butyric acid, a short-chain fatty acid. Butyric acid esters are among the most common fragrance ingredients due to their fruity, sometimes tropical, odor profiles. The combination with the green character of cis-3-hexenol makes this a versatile fragrance building block. The compound has been reviewed by IFRA and is not subject to significant restrictions. It is not listed on EU cosmetic annexes.
