A fluorinated silicone polymer that conditions hair and acts as an antifoam. The perfluoroalkyl groups put it in the PFAS family — extremely persistent in the environment and increasingly restricted by EU and US regulators in cosmetics.

Function

ANTIFOAMINGHAIR CONDITIONING

Skin benefits

  • Antifoam in silicone formulations
  • Conditions hair with smooth feel
  • Effective at very low use levels

Known concerns

  • Contains perfluoroalkyl (PFAS-related) groups — persistent, bioaccumulative environmental concern
  • EU has progressively restricted PFAS in cosmetics under REACH/POP Regulation
  • Long environmental half-life — not biodegradable
  • Some PFAS class members linked to immune, thyroid and reproductive effects
