Fine
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A broad-spectrum organic UV filter (UVB + UVA-II). Highly photostable and EU-approved, but not yet on the US FDA monograph.
Octrizole (CAS 3147-75-9), also known as octyl triazone analog 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4,6-di-tert-pentylphenol, is a broadly UVB/UVA-II-absorbing photostable organic sunscreen active. SCCS (EU) has evaluated it and it is listed on EU Annex VI (permitted UV filters) up to 10%. No CMR, genotoxic, or in-vivo endocrine-disruptor classifications. It is highly lipophilic and has drawn environmental-persistence attention (aquatic bioaccumulation), similar to other benzotriazole filters. Not yet approved as a stand-alone active under the US OTC sunscreen monograph. Score reflects strong human safety data and real environmental caveats.
