Caution

Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.

Naproxen is a pharmaceutical NSAID used in cosmetics for skin conditioning but is subject to EU restrictions as a drug-like substance with systemic toxicity concerns.

Naproxen (CAS 22204-53-1, (S)-2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acid) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). While it has skin conditioning properties, it is a pharmaceutical substance with known systemic toxicity (gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, renal effects). The EU cosmetics regulation flags substances that deplete the ozone layer for restrictions, and drug-like substances with systemic profiles are generally incompatible with cosmetic use in the EU. Naproxen use in cosmetics is highly restricted and discouraged.
