Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A simple seven-carbon aldehyde (heptaldehyde) with a green-citrus odor. Well-characterized fragrance aldehyde with standard irritation caveats.
Heptanal (heptaldehyde, CAS 111-71-7) is a saturated seven-carbon aldehyde occurring naturally in grapes, olives, and citrus peel oils. Widely used in perfumery for green-fatty-citrus top notes. Pure heptanal carries GHS skin/eye irritation labels, but cosmetic use levels (ppm range in finished products) are safe per RIFM/IFRA evaluations. Food-industry FEMA GRAS status (2540) adds weight to its safety database.
