About FERRIC FERROCYANIDE

Prussian blue pigment (CI 77510) — provides deep blue color in eyeshadows and mascaras. Despite the 'cyanide' in the name, the cyanide ions are tightly locked to iron and aren't released — it's safe.

Detailed Analysis

Ferric Ferrocyanide (Fe₄[Fe(CN)₆]₃, also CI 77510) is an inorganic pigment known as Prussian blue. The cyanide ligands are strongly bound to iron(II) centers in the hexacyanoferrate complex, making them essentially non-bioavailable. FDA-approved as a color additive; EU-permitted in all cosmetics provided it is free from unbound cyanide ions. Also used medically as an antidote for thallium and cesium-137 poisoning (FDA-approved drug). Provides intense, stable blue color with excellent lightfastness. Must be free from cyanide ions per regulatory requirements.
