Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A mild anionic surfactant derived from lauric acid and PEG-5, used in cleansing products for its excellent foaming and skin-deaning properties without excessive degreasing.
This disodium salt of a PEG-5 sulfosuccinate amide is a specialty surfactant notable for its amide linkage, which imparts better mildness than simple alkyl sulfosuccinates. The 5-mol ethylene oxide group provides water solubility while the lauric (C12) chain delivers effective detergency. Not listed in any restricted annex of EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. Similar sulfosuccinate ingredients have been used safely in baby-care and sensitive-skin product lines for decades. The amide bond makes it more resistant to hydrolysis than pure ester-linked sulfosuccinates.
Skin benefits
- Produces rich, stable foam while maintaining skin barrier integrity
- Excellent oil and dirt removal suitable for facial and body cleansers
Known concerns
- Mild eye irritant — avoid direct eye contact in formulations
- May cause skin irritation in individuals with specific fatty acid amide sensitivities
