Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A C3-4 alkane fraction from petroleum refining with potential 1,3-butadiene contamination; the conditional butadiene descriptor places it on the EU Annex II prohibited list for cosmetics.
Propane-butane alkane fractions from petroleum streams are fuel gases but also potential carriers of 1,3-butadiene as a trace process contaminant. Under EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex II and CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, 1,3-butadiene is classified Category 1A carcinogenic, making any stream — including this C3-4 alkane cut — prohibited at >0.1% w/w butadiene content in cosmetic products.
Known concerns
- 1,3-Butadiene >0.1% w/w — EU Annex II prohibited carcinogen
- LPG-range alkanes with no cosmetic function established
- Inhalation toxicity risk from volatile hydrocarbons
